In the evening, the City of Lights offers a whole new face. From 7 p.m. until the cool early-morning hours, the capital remains wide awake. Shows, cabarets, discothèques, bars and restaurants: the journey to the end of the night doesn’t just happen in Céline’s novel.
Chic, trendy, gay or affordable, whatever type of evening out you’re seeking, you’ll find it in the Capital. Upon leaving one of the many shows offered every night of the year, you’ll find brasseries open in every area that has a concert hall or theatre nearby.
Some districts deserve special mention for their festive qualities. In the Bastille, République, Saint-Germain-des-Près, Champs-Élysées, Mouffetard or Pigalle districts, you’ll experience philosophical, mischievous or contemplative nights or evenings filled with wild partying. You’ll fall under the spell of these places that are so well-known it’s almost not worth mentioning their names. You’ll be treated to all types of music at the Moulin Rouge, Queen, New Morning, Bains Douches, Bus Palladium or Baiser Salé. Evenings at Carwash, Golden 80', Saturday Fever or Overkitsch offer rock, disco, techno or salsa.
For more legendary places, try the Crazy Horse, the Zénith, the Olympia or the Grand Rex. For something more intimate, opt for the Petit Opportun, the Petit Journal, the Blue Note, the Caveau de la Huchette or the Chat Noir. Those longing for existentialist Paris will be happy at the Procope, the Flore, the Lipp or the Deux Magots. And on big match nights, crowds are drawn to pubs, such as the Auld Alliance Pub in the 4th arrondissement, the Lion’s Pub on Rue Montmartre, the Cork and Cavan at the Quai de Jemmapes, Hetfeeld’s Pub on the Grands Boulevards or Café Oz locations all around Paris.
A cruise on the illuminated Seine, a spectacular table on the first floor of the Eiffel Tower or at a terrace on Montmartre: your imagination is the only limit.
And when the time comes to go back to your hotel, you can take the metro until 2 a.m. or starting at 5:30 a.m., find a Noctilien bus, in service throughout the night, rent a Vélib' or rely on one of the city’s taxis. The trip back becomes part of the evening’s entertainment: Paris by Night is also the lively atmosphere of the never-tiring streets.
